An Open GUID is a global web identifier.  It is used to identify people, companies, products and even abstract concepts.  Open GUID is simply uniqueness defined by the web community.

Identity is a fundamental concept of computer science and a cornerstone of the Semantic Web and Linked Open Data movements.  Without identity, significant reliable analysis of the web is impossible.

Open GUID consists of a draft Specification and several Services made available on OpenGUID.net.
